Backhoe Operator (Construction)

The details:

As an operator in our internal Construction team, your primary responsibility will be to perform backhoe operations on storm water and road rehabilitation projects. You may also have opportunities to operate additional on-site equipment such as excavators, rollers and graders if licenced. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Operating the backhoe as your primary equipment
• Operating additional plant and equipment as needed, within the scope of your training and licences 
• Conducting daily pre-start inspections on relevant machinery
• Reporting defects, safety concerns or issues related to equipment or ongoing projects

This role requires a proactive approach to equipment operation and a strong commitment to safety protocols. You will play a vital part in delivering Council's internal construction projects, focusing on stormwater and road infrastructure.

About you

Ideally, your application will demonstrate hands-on experience operating backhoes in similar environments or projects. Your background should showcase proficiency in handling a variety of medium-sized plant items, including backhoes, excavators, rollers, and graders, typically used in civil construction projects.

To complement your practical experience, you must also possess: 

• a current truck licence (minimum Heavy Rigid - HR class) 
• a Construction Induction card
• Certification to operate a Backhoe (LB)

This combination of practical experience and formal qualifications will ensure you're well equipped to excel in this dynamic role, contributing to the efficiency and safety of our internal Construction projects.
